easily portable bass rig
Over the years I have managed to bugger up my back. Earlier this year I had an MRI scan, and it would seem I've damaged 2 vertebrae in my lower back, one of which is pushing in against the nerve causing sciatic type pain.
My current "Big" rig is a Peavey TNT150, which as anyone that knows will tell you weigh a FUCKING TONNE!! Lifting this up the stairs from my sub-basement flat and into the car will not be a good idea if I want to play when I get to the venue, so I'm looking for suggestions for a reasonable LIGHTWEIGHT bass rig/combo that I can move around with minimal risk to my back and mobility.
Any suggestions? Other than "Learn to play the recorder"?

I hear you on the TNT. The latest version of the Fender Rumble series combos are nice and light. Otherwise, maybe a head with a line out.

Look at the Markbass stuff. Looks a little corny, but very lightweight and sounds good.
They make a 112 cab with 400 watt power handling that's sub 30 pounds.

How about a Tech 21 DI bass pedal? You could make your rig as light as your pedalboard, if you use one of those straight into the PA. Maybe with a preamp or gain pedal for some overdrive tones?

Not sure on your budget or wattage needs... but look into the Phil Jones suitcase line. I know they make a 300 watt job that weighs 40lbs... but it's over $1k.
they have cheaper, lower wattage versions also.
also, Ibanez has a much cheaper 300watt that apparently only weighs 21lbs.

What is acoustic? Oh, you means a grandpa's guitars? A grandpa's guitars? That's for pussies and grandpas. I think you know it.

Re: easily portable bass rig
Some interesting replies. It's given me a few options, for sure. I shall look into these. I had actually considered just using a DI direct from my board to the desk, Shadoweclipse13, as I have a stereo DI box.
Cheers for all the suggestions so far: Keep 'em coming!!

This is what I picked up a few months back. Still building the bass, and I'm dying to hear how it sounds.

Look up Barefaced, a UK cabinet maker. Not cheap but your back is worth it. The owner will want to know what you play before you buy. But he's a champ. I love my Super Twin which I haven't even gone super loud with yet.
I love those old Peaveys. I got rid of my TNT 130 a while back not because my back was getting hurt, but because I couldn't carry it without smashing a finger on a jamb or stubbing a toe on the sidewalk. Once after a stub I stumbled forward, dropped it and cut my chin on it. Thank goodness the street wasn't too crowded. The amp was fine and I looked like an idiot bleeding at the gig. I would sway around like a drunk with it in my arms.
Edit to add: that tech 21 box sounds fabulous!!

What's your budget? Gallien-Krueger isn't cheap, but their stuff sounds amazing and isn't boutique-priced, either. A 200W MB200 head weighs 2 lbs (or a whopping 3.75 lbs for the 500W head). Their NEO 115 cabinet is 40 lbs. And, you'd be hard-pressed to get a nicer tone this side of an SVT, at 42 lbs and about $1000.

I'm looking at the TC Electronics BH250. I'd like one with an effects loop, but if I have to compromise that for light weight I'll do it. They do that with various cabs, including a 2x8". anyone used a 2x8" bass rig?

Re: easily portable bass rig
i use a 2x10... 2x8 will be fine...especially if you run through mains as well. If you're just jamming with the band, 2x8 may not move enough air to get the volume you want(depending on bandmates volume levels)NoiseNoiseNoise wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2017 7:47 amI'm looking at the TC Electronics BH250. Re: easily portable bass rig
I think the BH250 208 "combo" allows for another speaker to be added if it needs more air, and I still have my 4x10 and 1x15 Session Sessionette cabinets for full force
I need to find somewhere that has one on display so I can try it.....

That sounds like best of both worlds honestly. Light enough to carry, just leave your extension can at rehearsal space.
