Re: 64 Custom Deluxe
It's new. I just saw it. If they had done it with the Princeton Reverb, I would have sold my 3 amps to buy it. I really like the idea. I never understood why they didnt make a handwired Deluxe Rervb (and Princeton Reverb) since a original well maintened one cost more then 3k$.Baldy wrote:Is this new or have I been taking a really long nap

Re: 64 Custom Deluxe
in the Americas for sure. But finding a blackface one or even late 60's to early 70's DR's overseas is not an easy task. An original blackface export version would be in the range of 4k EUR or more in Europe (if in good condition but first you have to track one down). Late 60's to early 70's SF would be up to 2.5k EUR or maybe even up to 3k EUR. So there is certainly a market for that 64' custom deluxe, if priced below 3k EUR.OffYourFace wrote:you can get a real one for a little less but oh well.
Side note: interesting that the Custom Deluxe comes with a stock P12Q

Why would you buy a new copy and lose a ton of cash when you can buy vintage and at the very worst it simply be the equivalent of banking the cash? And you have a real one, not a copy. Makes no sense to me.

Re: 64 Custom Deluxe
Well, there are a couple of reasons actuallyeggwheat wrote:Why would you buy a new copy and lose a ton of cash when you can buy vintage and at the very worst it simply be the equivalent of banking the cash? And you have a real one, not a copy. Makes no sense to me.
The first is, if you're not in the US, it's practically impossible to find a vintage one that's been converted to 220.
The second reason is, that if a person is fortunate enough to find one, you'll end up paying double or more, in euros or pounds, so loosing money compared with prices back home.
The third reason is, at least for me, I'm not so concerned about the resale value, I'm buying it for my personal enjoyment. Which I wont put a resale put a price on.
The fourth is market uncertainty, the only people I know who can see the future are weathermen
In the end , somethings only worth what someone is willing to pay and most people make a funny clicking sound when it's a steep price.
The fifth reason is, if I really wanted to save a bunch of clams, I would completely stop the guitar/amp obsession, but I can't damn it
I've just commented on this very thing in another thread actually, regarding "copies" of other types of guitars. It's a tricky word because in most contexts, Copy sounds like a bad thing, it brings to mind a forgery, a thing meant to deceive even, or something of a lesser value.
My reasoning is, a fender amp that is aesthetically identical to a 65 deluxe , made by "the magic musical instrument Co" is most definitely a copy of a fender amp. An epiphone LP is a copy of a Gibson LP. A G&L tele is,a copy of a fender tele. Not in a bad way.
But on the other hand, a reissue of a fender amp, made by fender is just that, it's a reissue of one of their own earlier designed products. Does it fall under "copy" well yes, but again it depends on the context the word is used in, when it's to do with anything collectible and someone says copy, it sort of comes with an invisible... AH, COPY, JUNK. attached to it.
A person could say that the original 65 deluxe was made in... I dunno, January 1965, they sold all of them, so in November of 1965 they made more. So would these be copies of the original run ...? I suppose they are, but because of status attached, they'd be regarded as a "late run" not a copy or a reissue, but if a person wanted to argue the point, you could.
If the only concern is buying and selling gear for eventual resale profit, then I suppose that falls into another category and it would be self defeating to praise that which is new over that which is vintage.
I'm sure you'd never hear the well known vintage dealers ever say that, MAN, a new fender AVRI blows away an old guitar ..

Re: 64 Custom Deluxe
Well, I thought the Custom '64 will be less then 3 000 can$, but they are annonced at 3379$can+tx. That means that they will cost more then a original bf Deluxe Reverb. It makes no sense. But, I will surely increased the price of vintage Deluxe Reverb...Arthon wrote:It's new. I just saw it. If they had done it with the Princeton Reverb, I would have sold my 3 amps to buy it. To tell the truth, for the past 8-10 years or so, the regular Deluxe Reverb Reissue has sounded pretty damn good.
