I put in some Fender 12AX7 tubes in the pre and p1 spot to try them out. Sounded pretty good. Then I tried some Chinese tubes and I liked those best. Less operating noise and tighter distortion. Also I noticed improved tone knob response with these tubes. Does it make sense that different tubes would make the tone knob effect more noticible? Next experiment are some Mullard EL84 tubes in the power section.
