How does it sound with a cranked booster running into it tho?
:)

Well, it can go two ways...if you have the Nano maxed and just hit it with a cranked booster, it will get a bit more saturated.

Something like a Klon will affect the treble content as well if that is needed. I find that sometimes a bit of brightness can help.

The best thing to do though, if you want to go the booster way, is to have the Nano's volume round, say 1-2 o'clock, where it is hairy and overdriven, but not raging, and then hit it with a maxed booster...that gives awesome gain with harmonic complexity.

Actually, I was playing it like this today. It was pretty awesome with a P90 Les Paul. 8)

I think it is time for an update to this thread. :)

I have been loving playing this little amp so much, that I decided I should commit to it a bit more, instead of just hooking it up to my Matchless Amp's speaker.

Image

I was lucky enough to score an old 70s Celestion Greenback (that is the last version, so it actually has a blackback!) from a very good friend of mine. The speaker used to live in an old late 70s Orange 4x12.

Once I picked up the speaker, I did some research to find out exactly what I had,

So what do we have?

CK14 = March 14th 1977
Kurt Mueller 1777 lead cone
T1217 = G12H 75hz 16ohms

Very cool indeed...now I think I need to get a 1x12 cab to house it... 8)

The cab is really well made, excellent parts and was made and shipped to me in under two weeks. Thank you Zilla cabs. Excellent communication and workmanship. Highly recommended! 8)

Time to fit the speaker...

It went in without a hitch...next, to fasten the Night Light Jr and the Nano to it. I opted to use Dual Lock instead of drilling holes.

It's working out great!

The final piece of the puzzle for me was tilt-back legs...I wanted to be able to get the volume real low, and by having a good angled placement you get great sound projection

I can now play in the evenings without bothering the neighbours...The Maxx approves! :freako: 8)

Being the obsessive nut that I am, I wanted to also have some spare miniature tubes for the nano. I scored a few on ebay a while back, so I am now set for life :D

Image

But one last thing...how do you align the pins when changing the tubes?

Legend has it that a "pin alignment tool" was available from Zvex dealers. I looked online for months with no success.

In the end, I emailed the good folks at Zvex, which sent me one.

Image

I got some stickers too! :)

Image

I give you, the rarest ZVex-related object...the pin alignment tool...which is actually part of the PCB board! :D

I think this concludes the thread to all things Zvex Nano Amp.

Rock on!

was the 16 ohm speaker by choice or was it just what crossed your path? The plan was to make it as quiet as possible for neighbor consideration, as opposed to a 4ohm for max volume?
If OSG has tort me anything...

I6 ohm was what I got, yes...the Nano handles 8-16 ohms if I remember correctly.

In my experience the speaker/ohm ratio never mattered volume-wise as long as everything is paired correctly...of course some mis-matching can get the volume down further, I guess :)

Ha! Awesome!!

I too have a custom made cab from Zilla although I went for an oversized 1x12 cab that will take a second speaker, should I ever want to knock a couple of walls down. Seriously, the 1x12 is waaaaaay more than I need. Half the reason I went oversized was simply so I could sit my AC30 head comfortably on top. A normal 1x12 should've been 2 narrow.

When I ordered mine he was actually based in Hounslow & I was living in Kew so I actually got to meet the guy & chat about specs. His builds are fantastic, right down to the proper 16 ply (?) birch. Really good to see he's still going strong!

What wattage is that dinky ZVex amp?
You think you can't, you wish you could, I know you can, I wish you would. Slip inside this house as you pass by.

Nice mini rig. I've wanted one of the nanos for a while, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.
