Bass amp for practice/at-home recording

Post by Stereordinary » Wed May 10, 2017 6:00 pm

A friend and I are both in the same situation. We need bass amps that are good quality (in the sense that they will last a while), pretty inexpensive, and good for practice and maybe some home recording. Any recommendations?

Get an old Fender sidekick. Cheap, reliable, sound good.
This is an excellent rectangle

Not the smallest thing ever, but the Ampeg BA-115 is a killer amp, cheap price, has a style knob for varying voices, doesn't weigh as much as you'd think, and it has an XLR out and headphone out. This is the amp i used for about a decade until i switched to the Sansamp Bass Driver exclusively. I had the older tilt back model from the 2000's. It was $300 or something, maybe less.

Also, the Fender Rumble amps are a pretty great choice. I used an earlier model a while back, but i haven't tried the new ones.

Rumble 100? Not my favorite DI in the world, but it certainly gets the job done in every regard.

+1. The new fender combos sound good.

Depending on home practice needs you could just go through the PA. You'll probably DI for recording anyway.

Sorry I'm a bit late to this party. I like my Line 6 Studio Lowdown 110. It's small and portable, and it packs a decent punch.
You don't have to use all of the pre-programmed settings (a few of them are kinda nutso). You can usually pick up a used one for under $100 if you can find one.

I have been eyeing up an Ashdown CTM 15 for use at home
