I plugged into an orange at an impromptu set the other night. I think it was a Th30, just used the clean channel. It was really nice, paired extremely well with the broadcast in front.

OR50 with an old Orange 4x12.

I don't anymore, but I had an Orange AD30R 2x12 combo. I loved it. It was heavy, but it did everything I wanted it to. I regret selling it. Mine had Vintage 30's in it. I sold it because I needed money, and then I fell down a Fender amp hole that I've been stuck in for like 10 years.

Need advice...

I have a Rocker 15 that do pretty much what I want it to do in my band, recording, rehearsal and gigs when the amp is miced. I use it thru a 4x10 Orange cab for more a large sound spectrum. I also have a Tiny Terror, but I dont use it often since I need the effect loop for reverb, delay and echo.

But... I need more volume/presence when we are doing unmiced gig. I am in a 5 pieces band and my 15 watts dont stand-out enough for the audience. There is a great deal on a TH30 head near me. It's nice, but I dont need a 4 stage gain (I dont play metal or even Hard rock). I heard great things about the Rocker 30. Should I try to find one used? It's made in UK but doesnt have a effect loop. Since I have the 4x10 cab, I will be playing the head thu it. I would have thought about the Rocker 32 if they made a head version; I dont need another Orange combo. I want a Orange, to keep a certain constancy in my sound.

What do you think? Or maybe someone will say that going from a 15 watts to a 30 watts wont help me get heard more in a unmiced gig.

Well, that depends. Are you using a very clean tone? 30W will get you farther than 15 for clean headroom, but if you're into power tube OD territory, it won't be a dramatic difference.

It depends on the size and shape of the room, but often, it's more an issue of sound dispersion than pure decibels at the speaker. For example, 30W with two cabs (one on each side of the stage) will probably be better heard in many locations in the room than a 50W combo amp.

How big are these gigs? Who else is playing? And are audience members commenting that they can hear you, or are you basing this on your listening position on stage?

1- I use my Rocker in light/medium OD territory. The gain is around 12 on the amp, and the volume around 10; it's about the end of the headroom. After that, it just gest more distorted.
2- Maybe I could try to separate my 4x10 from my Rocker 15. I have a long speaker cab, so it should be possible
3- Bar gigs. I hear myself very well on stage (my Rocker 15 is on a amp stand); it's the audience that complain that they dont hear me. That's why I think I need more presence.

A couple months ago, i was lucky enough to also pick up a '78 120M Overdrive head for a great price.
Yesterday I took it to my new band's rehearsal to try it out LOUD.
And OH WOW I'm a happy chap now. This is my new setup/gig amp from now on.

Thing is HEAVY but so worth it. We also picked up a case of beer on the way to our room, so it wasn't so easy, but now it's there and I can't wait to go back to it to let it ROAR.

I use two small orange amps, myself. A tiny terror combo with a green back at home, and a rocker 15 terror into one of those new neo 2/12 cabs for live/band work. Pretty psyched on them both.

Those tiny terror heads are pretty nice. Doom-obsessed stepkid has one because of course it "has to be an orange", and it's both louder and more versatile than one might think.

For sure. I set it up for a decent drive with the guitar volume at 3-4. It has eliminated the need for a drive pedal on my live board, which is great for simplicity. It has all the gain I need for just about anything with the vol wide open.
The only thing I wish it did was compress less. Especially at full song with a fuzz.
Otherwise I’m all in.

I was always intrigued by Orange because the guitarist for the band Scissor Sisters. Typically played in style of 70s solos. Beyond that, all the other oranges I’m familiar with were used for stoner and metal rock.

Anyone have good examples of Orange being used for things other than what most buy them for?

There's an awesome picture of The Police in their early days, and Andy Summers is rocking a black beauty Les Paul through an Orange half stack. It looks like they're on one of those weekly TOTP kinds of shows.

I just spent like 10 minutes looking on the web for that pic, but can't find it. Boo. It's a totally incongruous sight, you know? But it's awesome.

Stevie Wonder on Sesame Street. I'm sure I've seen other shows where they have them too. Dunno if Stevie's keys are going through them (suppose that wouldn't be all that strange for the 70s?)

Definitely not what comes to mind when you thing of them. I’d like to hear that recording.

Haha..probably not. He’s probably using it. I’d say it wasn’t a bad electric piano amp. I think today we get really wrapped up in not playing things through guitar amps, but sometimes it works great.
