I probably wouldn't start with the handwired, as it's a lot of money, but it does sound good. I tend to be heavy on the treble on my amps, so I suspect I'd get along with a Vox.

I'm mostly an at-home player, so I think an AC15 would be awesome. I don't usually play with amp gain, so the EF86 channel probably wouldn't be a big deal for me.
They're my favorite amp family with Tweeds coming in second.

Yeah, the Top Boost channel can do tons of Treble and has another gain stage. The Normal channel is mellower and rather dark. People think "Vox = Chime" but the Normal channel is a very different tone. If you want cleans and good lows, AC30s offer more of that.

Yeah, these 60th annis are expensive. A modern one with a Master volume is a better choice for most people.

Glad you dig the tone :)

I may be a convert ;D I would love to have an AC4, as I love small combos.

AC10s are also pretty cool and on the small side. Old AC10 twins are 2x10s - you've probably seen Dan's AC10 as well. I think it sounds better for driven tones than his (more revered) AC30 TBH.

I have the Handwired AC4. It has that Top Boost preamp and a 12" speaker. It doesn't have the headroom for great cleans but it will do great edge of breakup and mid-gain tones (or high gain by early 80s standards in Hot mode). I like to plug it into an external 2x12 for a bigger sound, but the amp just doesn't have the headroom for much bass at all. That can work really well for leads and in dense mixes.

I've had a new FSR Vox AC10 with Celestion Greenback on order for 6+ months! They tell me it's coming soon!

Oy… That's a long wait!

The 60th Annis are also behind schedule. The release date was Summer, then May, now September

That's a great price! They are that price in £s over here in the UK, without shipping! That's a bit odd?

Yeah, basically the same price in the UK as the US, excluding VAT/taxes. That is odd to me, considering it's built in the UK. My guess is that the price is not determined primarily by cost to market. Instead, it is based on what people are willing to pay. Supply/Demand. I've read 100/150 of each amp is headed for the US. That means there will be significantly less in the UK, where used JMI-era Vox amps are much more affordable. If the UK gets 10 or 20 of each, maybe they will sell no problem. After all, these are amps with no real competitor in the sense that another company can't really take and sell Vox's heritage.

The Minimum Advertised Price for these amps in the US are $3,000 for the AC15 and $4,000 for the AC30.

AFAIK they have not hit American shores yet (for anything beyond promotional purposes). US will be getting 100/150 of each amp.

However, I have seen sale listings in Europe and the UK. A few have sold. Maybe a few of our friends in Europe/UK have played them?

All stateside retailers are saying September. My advice would be to buy before you try if you really want one. You have a return policy.

Also, Anderton's posted a new vid with Danish Pete on it yesterday:

This is the best demo of the 60th Annis IMO:

I'll be comparing mine to my AC30HW2X (upgraded). It will ship one of these days…

Heavy distortion on some demo vids is harsh but… they come with JJs. I've come to expect nasty distortion from JJs. The JJs can easily be replaced.

i played the new anniversary AC-15 back in January at NAMM. it was after closing, i was actually leaving but i heard it raging from around the corner. it stopped me in my tracks. i went over and they let me hang out. the crowds were gone so i got to listen to it from close up and distant angles. i already knew it felt much more visceral than mine - i have a 50th anniversary with EF86 which i love! the main difference i noticed is that it's faster - perhaps a beefier transformer, or stronger rectification?

if what i heard went into production, and i'm guessing being limited at 150 they wouldn't have to compromise, you are in for a real treat.

i will say this, the hand-wired limited edition Voxes of the past always seem to go relatively cheap on the used market. even my Mahogany TV-style AC15, which was limited to something like 300, i found for $1200 in excellent shape instead of $2000 'street' new.

great stuff, though!

At that price I'd highly recommend that you try to get your hands on a JMI reissue instead. They'll work out cheaper than those prices and having owned an AC4 of theirs (as well as having played their AC30 and AC10) I can say that they stack up very well against vintage models. JMI used the original circuits with only modernisation where required for safety reasons (i.e. no death caps and proper three prong plugs etc).

I've long lusted after a JMI AC10 - but they're just too loud for my uses so I stick with the Princeton.
