running direct into the board?

anyone run direct into the board for gigs?
We are thinking about going to all direct inject to the board (bass, acoustic guitar, banjo, mandolin, bouzouki, fiddle, electric guitar for the most part.) to make touring easier. it's a right bitch to coordinate everything for a week or two in Hawaii, Japan, Oz, etc. and the current thought is if we could do everything direct we would be able to drag along 99% of what we need on stage and just plug into the mains at the venue. sounds nice on paper but I'm kinda fond of my JM > 62 tremolux set up.(or other fender sparkly clean amp if needed.) I am reluctant to sound like mud in order to streamline the stage set up. Since we are already running Ipads for in-ears, set lists, etc. it won't be an issue to run the board from the Ipads as well.
so is anyone running direct with good results?

What about using a tech 21 blonde straight to the board for your guitar

I've never done it but I guess decent DI boxes suited to the instrument are the key.

I've been messing around with the tech21 blonde box for a couple weeks in the studio but I just can't get that sparkly fender clean with it. If I go direct I gotta get a great clean sound; otherwise why play a JM? There's got to be a way (that fits into the guitar case)...
the search goes on.

Have you tried any Radial stuff?

I have a Tech 21 Bass DI and Acoustic DI, and both are great. I am way more picky about electric guitar sounds though.

At church I have ran straight into but just not the same. Also, had to really depend on the sound guy to give me volume.

thanks for the suggestions guys, mucho appreciato...

I think I'd like to try out one of the tech21 flyrigs and see what how it sounds clean. If I could just get the clean sound of my 62 tremolux running direct life would be grand. I know, now way in heII but a guy can dream.

There's a guy on youtube/here slackervk/silentium_vk and he plays his jm thru some valve pre-amp into a two notes torpedo cab pedal direct to his pc line in and he has the quintessential jazzmaster tone (most of his vids sound as good if not better than the original recordings) and i think that would translate really easily to a p.a system
