Best speaker for DRRI ?
What do you think is the best speaker for a Deluxe reverb 65' ? I have a FSR DRRI with P12Q and since it's a pretty expensive speaker (compared to a C12K, for example) I tought I could get another one without loosing much money. I'm not saying I don't like it but I've never played another speaker in a DRRI so maybe I would love something else. What are your recommendations for a mostly clean sound. I'm really into bands like BJM, Black Market Karma, Galaxie 500, Warlocks, Rancho Relaxo ...etc who I think all have a mostly clean sound with distortion here and there I could use my RAT for distortion if needed.
So yeah what do you guys think? P12Q is awesome? Weber? Celestion gold? .... thanks

Yeah C.REX seems to be really popular. Thanks
Anyone has something to say about WGS G12C ? The price is pretty good and the review here is making me think about it: http://fenderguru.com/how-fender-amps-w ... -speakers/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wait! didn't we just have this discussion last month? Haha..in all seriousness though, do a quick search. There is a couple page thread that someone just started a couple months ago on this very topic and amp. There were many suggestions thrown out in that thread.

Hehe I've seen it. I just tought I could name a few band that I'm into and the kind of sound I want to help you guys helping me hehe. Some people play country or metal or whatever and could propose a speaker that fit their style but not mine.salty wrote:Wait! didn't we just have this discussion last month? Re: Best speaker for DRRI ?
If you have not had the amp a long time, let the speaker break in for a while before making a change. They can really loosen up some.
The cannabis rex is a great clean speaker to my ears. It is a bit smokey sounding to me. Sounds good with gain as well. It is not quite as bright as the Jensens I have played. When I think of BJTM, I hear a bit more brightness in my head than I associate with the rex, but then again amps have treble knobs.

According to this video the C.Rex doesn't sound like a clean speaker, more like the P12Q I have. It does sound great but that is not really what i'm looking for.

The blackface in this one have a great cleaner sound to me. (I know it's the stock speaker and i'm not going to buy a C12K but..) Thisis why i'm thinking G12C wich are supposed to be a classic blackface sound speaker. Any feedback on these?

I vouch for Neodim speakers, had this one in a DR68 and was pretty great: https://www.jensentone.com/jet_series/tornado_12

Re: Best speaker for DRRI ?
I tried a bunch of them in both the unmodded and modded '65 DRRIs I had and came to the conclusion that the Texas Heat was the right one for me. I played all kinds of stuff through those amps from fuzz fests to sparkly clean fake jazz.
I only had the C Rex in there for a couple of weeks so it probably didn't get fully broken in, but smokey is exactly the right description IMO. It was a bit lacking in detail for my tastes though. I liked the Swamp Thang a bit better for cleans but it was just a bit too loud and didn't really sound as good to me as the Texas Heat under the influence of OD/Fuzz. The Texas Heat had plenty of bite and cut w/o being shrill or icepicky, a nice full bottom w/o getting flabby or muddy, and had a real nice sound at the edge of breakup or overdriven. Tried an alnico Weber as well but it was a bit too shrill for me.

Re: Best speaker for DRRI ?
In my experience, having owned two of them now, the C Rex takes a lot longer to break in than other non hemp speakers. It does get brighter to my ears after a few months of playing it a bit.

Re: Best speaker for DRRI ?
I'm curious about the hemp cone speakers (just because hemp is interesting in general), but haven't ponied up any cash for one.
I did put a Warehouse G12C/S into one of my '65 DRRI's (as recommended by friends and fenderguru.com) and it's clean....just loud.

Re: Best speaker for DRRI ?
I have tried a few and really like the Weber12F150 in my SFDR (and previously in a DRRI). If I was looking for the "original Jensen" DR sound, I would be very tempted to try the Jupiter line of speakers. No direct experience with them but reviews and sound clips seem very good. As has already been stated, give any speaker a good break in period to fairly evaluate.
