Roland cube 80gx

Post by theslack5 » Sat Sep 24, 2016 8:14 am

So the jack socket broke on my blues junior and I have a run of gigs booked, needed to get a cheap back up amp for rehearsals, maybe 1 of the gigs. Looked through my local gumtree came across a Roland cube 80gx for cheap and went for it. I don't need any of the amp models ( just using the Jazz chorus channel ) or the effects, this thing is impressing the hell out of me. Don't get me wrong as soon as I get my amp back from the shop I won't be using this but as a back up its fantastic, loud, clean and taking pedals well. Not used a solid state amp for years and never a digital one but I'm liking it. Anyone else play one?

Cube series is solid for what it is. I have a Cube20 as my only back-up amp and use it for bedroom play when I want to conserve tube life. It has a blank clean tone for pedals. Would like to have the bigger version like yours, but i'm mic'd most of the time so no need really.

I got a roland cube 80xl for my singer/guitarist to use, originally so she could plug a piano into as well, future-proofing and all as we're yet to bust out any piano songs. They are rather loud for their size, sound decent enough as well. ;)
If OSG has tort me anything...

I gigged with one for ages because I was living in a different city to where I was gigging and had to borrow amps. I loved it because of how well it took pedals. I had all my dirt in my pedals, so the Cube was perfect. Sound men seemed to love it too, because they knew exactly what to do with it.

I think the Cube is a better amp than you deserve to get for the money and size of the thing, and I find that incredibly satisfying.

Just played live with the cube for the first time it sounded completely fine, there were things within the tone that felt different to my blues junior but overall the band sounded pretty much the same and people thought it sounded good. Big thumbs up to the little cube. Mr Roland with you stupid cheap little amps you are really spoiling us.
