Has anyone here tried to rebuild this amp and move the transformers/ tube locations around to eliminate all the hum from the idle signal? The rig I run and the music I play leave very little room for such an obvious hum, even at the low volume my head generates now. I've got a grounded steel(?) plate with some copper tape on it in the same location as the one in the photo earlier in this thread and it does seem to help but only to a point.

My thinking is that you could increase the build quality of the headframe and eliminate the hum all in one go.

Any thoughts? Not worth the time?

If it works I don't see how it isn't worth the time. Might be easier to build a ground up one then to take one apart and try to put it together again. There are some Silvertone amp head kits I have seen online. Might be a better option unless you have all the other parts anyways. ;D

Looking good. I had a Sears 1485 in the mid 60s. Was playing a 59 Stratocaster through it. It sounded pretty darn good. Wish I had it back. :)
