I'm glad there are a lot of guitar players pursuing technique as diligently as they possibly can, it leaves this whole other area open to people like me.

I've played both, I think the blues looks cooler. Get it.

Re: which would you choose?
I've played both and I'd go blues deluxe as I think it sounds better than the hot rod, which is of course as above described, the same thing plus more gain stages (which I found useless, for what it's worth)
as a side-note, the drive channel of the blues deluxe isn't anything to write home about either, but a good OD/Boost in the clean channel works well

Ahem...Silverface Deluxe....ahem..... Silverface Super......
Probably around the same price as a new HRD or Blues Deluxe. Aren't they like $700 now?

Re: which would you choose?
With prices as low as they are you can find good deals on silverface amps again. Also look at ampegs, the Jet and reverbrocket are good in the deluxe range. IMHO the Blues Deluxe is way better, they killed the tone of that line of amps when they hotrodded them. I personaly don't wory about PCB boards being inside amps if they were made right to begin with they function fine.
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.

Re: which would you choose?
They're interesting. I wouldn't say they are the greatest Fender amp ever made, but they're worth more than the prices they used to go for, intrinsically. I don't know what they're selling for now.
it was the school amp in my high school jazz band.
I remember liking it fine. But I was also about 16 years old, so there's that.

Re: which would you choose?
I would wait, save up a few extra bucks, and buy a used Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue. I just saw one on Craigslist for$600 dollars, I think a DRRI would be much better than the other two, but thats only my opinion
