Isolation Cab

Is this a good way to play a cranked amp and get good tone?

I understand its use for recording, but is this a way I can play and listen to myself without bothering the neigbors.  If so how do I listen to myself with this setup?

Headphones or monitor speakers.

I think the quickest answer is "no," unless you have a really tiny amp. I keep getting lower and lower watt amps, and my 5 watt Swart Space Tone Reverb comes pretty close to having that magic 'turned up, but not too loud tone."

Allow me to make all the usual "I Friggin' LOVE real tube sound" disclaimers before I say: if loud volume/good tone is a real concern, those Line 6 pods are really great for headphone rock out sessions. They have all sorts of amps and effects, including tons of stuff no tube sound connoisseur would ever check out-- but every now and again it's fun to be that moronic god of shred metal. :)
