thanks for your reply 00000//////  8) my twin is a 73 twin reverb.  its been modded to blackface specs. it has the master volum but wasnt the push/pull model. i just want to have the good headroom/warm clean tone that i've always had. up until recent i've been playing through a 4x12 ampeg cab. it was a monster  :wtf: but sounded great in the trio that i was in. but now im in a band with keys, bass, drums, another guitar and two vocals. i down sized to a 2x12 cab knowing i wasnt goint oneed the ampeg. i just want speakers that are going to compilment the twin head.

If you want headroom and are used to a 4x12, I'd suggest the JBL D120F or Weber California on the high end, and the Eminence Cannabis Rex or Swamp Thing on the low end.

If you also would like light weight, Neodymium speakers would be a good choice.

Just be sure to check the power ratings of the speakers.  I wouldn't dare use anything less than a pair of 50W speakers in an 85w twin, and I'd probably want even more safety margin than that if I was going to be cranking the volume.

Ideally a pair of 75w speakers or greater would be a nice safety margin.

I played a Silverface twin with 2 EV's in it.

It sounded absolutely incredible, but also weighed well over a hundred pounds. And forget about it ever breaking up.....EVER.

I have about zero speaker expertise to share with you, but I do have one recommendation - try listening to some sound samples of some 12"s.  That way, people like Brad (or Ted over @ Weber; I emailed him directly about a month ago and he got right back to me in a couple days!) can give you a little more help.  I checked out the websites of most of the major brands about a month ago.  The Celestion site was the best help to me as far as sound samples.  The Eminence site was a close second.  The Jensen and Weber sites aren't much use until you have a pretty good idea what you're looking for.  But after listening to a few samples at Celestion and Eminence, you should have a pretty good idea of what you want in speaker terms -- warm, bright, crunchy, mellow, punchy, tubby, ceramic vs. alnico or neomags, you get the idea.  Then if you get realy well-informed on the subject, Weber can make you a rather custom speaker, with the exact wattage, cone profile, doping, and of course impedance to your spec.  But even if you don't take it that far you can perhaps give the guys here a better idea of what you're looking for -- well sure, most any 125W speaker should give you plenty of headroom, but... will it sound how you want it to?

I've heard some really cool EV speakers too.  The Fender 75 used a single 15" EV and it sounds awesome.  They will be loud and clean.  You don't see them in amps too much.
