Anyone still using a fender 68’custom vibrolux reissue?

Post by hangwire » Wed Jan 23, 2019 8:31 pm

Looking to downgrade to a smaller and lighter amp, something to record with at home and take to small shows as is or mic’d If needed. Currently have a fender twin reverb 15 custom reissue so I was thinking that 35 watts of these vibrolux amps would offer some decent cleans, and would be a close wash on price.

I play surge clean to heavy pedal sonic youth noise to pixies range rock

I don't have the 68 reissue but my main amp is a Vibrolux blackface reissue. I replaced the speakers with hemp cones for a darker tone and had a few mods done. I love it its sounds great and is plenty loud enough for any stage I play but quiet enough to practice with. Does clean very well, in fact, I basically use it for clean power and get my grit and effects from my pedals.

How different are those? I helped my friend get a brown reissue version of that back in 2004 and it sounded way bright on the reverb/tremolo side. Have you heard if these silverface 68’ are also that bright?

The vintage channel has the usual blackface voicing and the custom channel has a darker voicing. Many people say the custom channel leans towards the brownface tone.
